Petina has been directing professionally for over 25 years. She originally trained as an actress (at the Guildford School of Acting) and spent her early career years in weekly rep and touring; learning the hard way. TV and Film came later. This tough grounding has made her the rigorous and industrious director she is today. Petina aims for excellence and pushing the boundaries in all her productions, whilst still having fun.

Petina has a strong held belief that each production should honour the genre of the playwright to tell the story  and that engagement of the audience is paramount in this telling.

Petina  has her own company  www.goodmann-productions.co.uk  -details of which are on the other pages of this website,   She is also a resident director at the City Lit and a guest director at the Courtyard, as well as  working on other free-lance projects as they occur.

Petina has just finished directing BINNED a new play –

Recent productions directed by Petina  include  She Stoops to Conquer alongside Sir Jonathan Miller as creative Director – The Tempest – 10 plays at the Lyric Hammersmith – The Gut Girls for NI Theatre Company, Lysistrata for CL Theatre and a cross gendered Hamlet; which was part of the RSC open air season.

Petina is also currently coaching student and professional actors and she teaches a practical way into acting. Her methodology is not majorly influenced by any one practitioner but believes that actors should embrace them all at different times and for different needs. She believes that acting should use the strengths of the individual and that each actor is special and unique.  This approach definitely produces results, unlocks the actor and allows them to fulfil their full potential. She has coached many successful theatre and screen actors.

Petina believes that this common sense approach allows the actor to say not that “I am trying to do” this but rather “I am doing this”

Writing is also a passion and she has had three plays professionally produced for Goodmann Productions and is currently writing another.

Petina still takes on the odd acting role if time allows to keep her in touch with the profession and hone her craft.

Petina is available for interesting projects throughout the year – please contact her on petinadirecting@btinternet.com
